The Klimaattop Noord is a summit where companies, politicians, innovators and stakeholders interested in the energy transition come together to exchange their visions and ideas and inspire each other. Diederik Samson, former party leader of the Labour Party (PvdA), will be one of the keynote speakers of the 2nd edition and will lead the debate during the masterclass.
This masterclass is an opportunity to:
- discuss your own ideas, concerns and solutions with fellow students
- ask questions about his own ambitions in the energy transition

Diederik Samsom graduated as an engineer at the Delft University of Technology in 1997. Before becoming a politician in 2003 he was the CEO of a green energy trading company and a campaigner for Greenpeace Netherlands. After being elected in 2003 for the house of representatives as a member of the Labour party (PvdA) Diederik started his political career. In total Diederik spend 13 years in The Hague as a politician whereas the last 4 years at the party leader of the PvdA. During this time Diederik Samson was known for his knowledge on environmental issues. After he left the PvdA in 2016 Diederik returned to the field of sustainability as being a Climate & Energy expert.
This event is a public event organized by the Energy Academy and is defined as an Energy Learning Activity for students of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. The Energy Learning Activities are part of the Energy Academy Programme. If students follow 10 Energy Learning Activities and complete 30 ECTS in energy courses at Hanze UAS or University of Groningen, they are eligible for obtaining the Energy Academy Certificate.
