Long before the invention of electricity, the Dutch have been using wind power as an energy source. Most windmills are nowadays just tourist attractions, but parks filled with modern wind turbines are now used to harness a continuous source of energy. One of these wind farms, Westereems in the Eemshaven, can be found in the north of Groningen Province.

Westereems Wind Farm project was realized in 2008. It comprises 52 wind turbines and is part of a total of 88 wind turbines that have been installed in the area. The Windpark Westereems can deliver around 470 million kWh annually, enough to provide more than half of the households in the province of Groningen with green power.

Curious? Come and see it yourself! After a successful excursion in 2017, we will revisit Westereems.
