Energy Academy Europe is part of New Energy Coalition (www.newenergycoalition.org) At the moment, natural gas is one of the most important energy sources in the Netherlands. Did you know that 93% of Dutch households is connected to natural gas from the Groningen gas field? This largest natural gas field in Europe is operated by the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM). What do they do? What challenges lie ahead for them? And what does a gas extraction installation actually look like? Find out at the upcoming Energy Excursion to NAM’s headquarters in Assen and a visit to their gas field in Witten. During this excursion, you will have the opportunity to get to know NAM, their responsibilities and activities through different presentations, a game about energy transition and a visit to one of their gas fields. During this day, you will get to put forward and discuss issues with people from different parts of the company, get different perspectives on NAM and gas extraction in The Netherlands. Moreover, the energy transition and NAM’s role in this challenge will be addressed through playing the Energy Challenge game, which will give insights into the complexity of the energy transition. Furthermore, during the day, there will be possibility to discuss future career opportunities, such as internships and traineeships at NAM. The excursion will include:

  • Visit to gasfields Witten

It is defined as an Energy Learning Activity for students of the Hanze UAS and the University of Groningen. Students are invited to attend as many Energy Learning Activities as they want, at all stages of their education. Energy Learning Activities are part of the Energy Academy Europe Certificate. If students follow 10 Energy Learning Activities and also complete 30 ECTS in energy courses at Hanze UAS or the University of Groningen, they are eligible for obtaining the EAE Certificate.
