Mid September the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, together with the Indonesian Education Attache visited Energy Academy Europe/New Energy Coalition. The purpose was to explore opportunties of energy education and research in collaboration with Indonesian institutes and universities. The meeting was initiated by EAE’s Asia liaison officer Wanli Zheng, who is looking to expand Groningen’s International PhD program a.o. to Indonesia.
EAE’s scientific director Andre Faaij introduced the whole EAE/New Energy Coalition organization in general and explained the importance of energy governance to integrate different energy sources. Kim van Dam (education) and Robbert-Jan Slobben (research) briefed the edcuation and research programs conducted in Hanze and RuG. The main point was to discuss how to attract Indonesian master students to continue their PhD studies on energy in Groningen.
After visiting the Energy Academy building, the Ambassador met with Professor Jacquelien Scherpen, Director of ENgineering and TEchnology institute Groningen (ENTEG) and Chair of Groningen Engineering Centre. Jaquelien explained the engineering and technology related to education and research within University of Groningen (RuG). The Ambassador also visited the Ocean Grazer project led by Bayu Jayawardahana, an associate professor directly working with Jaquelien and originally from Indonesia.
The Ambassador concluded the visit elegantly by stating:” If we look for collaboration on energy with the Netherlands, Groningen and EAE/New Energy Coalition will be the first contact point.”
